A writer absolutely needs to research a setting before moving onto a description. Without prior knowledge of setting, the reader may be confused as to why the story is in the specific placement or unengaged because they already know of the location and the details are incorrect. The setting sets up the reader for knowing where your characters are and how they’re environment is affect their behaviors. It is also a determining factor on whether the writer will be considered a credible one. Someone without prior and correct knowledge cannot be trusted with the truth.
